The RECOIN project recently took part in the German Geothermal Congress, presenting itself during an excursion to the SEED project site in Frankfurt (Germany). Together with an international group of participants, the on-site workshop offered a comprehensive insight into the project’s work and objectives. RECOIN was presented by the project partners STRABAG Real Estate GmbH, Büro für Umweltfragen GmbH/Geotechnik Lehr, and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
After introductory remarks by Andreas Hülsken, Head of the Rhein-Main Division at STRABAG Real Estate GmbH, Alexander Schütz (Technical Project Manager of the SEED site) provided an overview of the innovative energy system and the structure of the building complex currently under construction. This was followed by a technical presentation by Clemens Lehr, who discussed the hydrogeological conditions, the design of the borehole heat exchanger field, and the existing monitoring system. Finally, Christoph Bott (MLU) introduced the international research project RECOIN, outlining its technological innovations, ongoing activities, and expected benefits.
A particular highlight was the guided tour of the construction site: participants were able to view the connection systems of the borehole heat exchanger field and the various elements of the control and monitoring technology that are being further developed and integrated within RECOIN. In addition, David Hoffmann (MLU) presented the DTS system used in the project, which enables high-resolution subsurface temperature monitoring and will provide valuable data to the RECOIN controller.
Overall, the excursion with its integrated workshop was a great success. It not only offered in-depth insights into the project but also highlighted the importance of continued innovation in shallow geothermal energy. The RECOIN team would like to thank all participants for the inspiring exchange and STRABAG Real Estate GmbH for the excellent organization.
