On September 16, the formal ground-breaking ceremony for the seasonal thermal energy storage facility in Ingolstadt marked the start of its construction. As part of the Horizon Europe project INTERSTORES, our research group is supporting this demonstrator from a scientific and technical perspective. The innovative, combined water-gravel thermal energy storage facilities, which are being transformed from former fire- extinguishing basins, will provide cutting-edge findings in, for example, flexibility and a reduction in environmental impacts. As coordinator of the project, Peter gave a short presentation to the audience at the ceremony. Together with our project partners and especially the incampus – a joint venture between AUDI and the City of Ingolstadt – we are very excited about this major milestone.
