We are pleased that this year’s United Nations (UN) World Water Day focuses on one of the main research topics of our working group – groundwater. This supports the relevance and attention to this important and highly vulnerable resource, even though it remains hidden beneath our planet’s surface. Various activities and events during and around this day provide information about the manifold and interesting aspects related to groundwater. Some of them are:
- A special lecture by Johannes Barth (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg & President of the German Section of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH))
on 2022-03-22 at 7:00 pm
http://weltwassertag.fau.de/ - World Water Day activities by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall e. V. (DWA))
https://de.dwa.de/de/oeffentlichkeitsarbeit.html - The official site dedicated to World Water Day by the United Nations offers many information and materials
https://www.worldwaterday.org/ - United Nations is also organizing an engaging interactive competition where people are invited to create their own 1-minute video about groundwater.

Following World Water Day, the 28th FH-DGGV Symposium will be held from 23-25 March 2022 on the subject of “Groundwater – Climate – Society”. Some of our colleagues will present contributions to this event.
