Construction work on the WGTES storage facility (seasonal gravel-water temperature storage facility) at the Ingolstadt site as part of the INTERSTORES project began in September last year and the storage facility has been filled with gravel, sand and crushed stone since April this year. At the same time, the installation of the storage tank monitoring system using fiber optics (DTS) began. These are laid level by level to measure the temperatures in the reservoir. We are regularly on site for this purpose. The installation is carried out in three steps:
Laying out the cable: The fiber optic cable is laid in a zig-zag pattern on one level of the storage facility.

Measuring the cable: Measuring points are defined along the cable and their positions are precisely determined using GPS and measuring tapes.
Length calibration: The measured points are thermally marked. Depending on the weather, a hot air dryer, ice spray or ice packs are suitable for this. This allows the position of the cable in the pool to be brought into line with the measurement data.
