Extreme groundwater fluctuations, caused by increasing dry periods and flooding events, are increasingly leading to soil subsidence processes and structural damage to buildings. Historical monuments are particularly affected by these changes in central Germany. My research therefore focuses on the underlying geotechnical and hydrogeological processes in order to develop sustainable protective measures for endangered buildings.
